Goodbye, Marty & Lorrie

This past week in church I learned that our Pastor, Marty, is going to be moving back east to preach in a new Presbyterian church. This news was very troubling for some, seeing as he has done so much for our congregation. Nine long years ago, Marty came to our church. Since then we have added on a whole new wing, including a fancy new gym, prayer room, kitchen, Sunday school rooms, and even a larger parking lot. Physical renovations aside, Marty has had a profound impact on the congregation. He reminded me today that the church wasn't about the building, the parking lot, or even the pastor. The church is about our fellowship together with Christ. So even though he is departing, COG will remain, stronger than ever.

Unfortunately, COG is losing another important figure, Lorrie Gaffney, our youth leader. She will remain at the church, of course, but she will no longer be serving as our youth leader. Lorrie is an amazing woman. She is the most compassionate soul I have ever met, and is a profound spiritual mentor. Lorrie led our group to San Francisco and Mexico, with the highest level of sincere compassion and grace. She has a message for everyone, and truly treasures every being she meets. Right now she is in Israel, learning about conflict, and amazing stories of God's presence and love. Her retirement into a different role in the church is a true loss to COG, but I know that she is making the right decision, and will always be a part of our lives.

That is so awesome that you have been able to have great leaders and mentors and have had great experiences with them. It hurts to see someone go but we will always remember our time with them.
